An explainer on “future crossover”

The term “Future/Past Ichimoku Crossovers” refers to Kumo crossovers that happen either before or after the bar you’re currently analyzing. By default, this bar is the last one available on the chart, unless otherwise specified.

A “past” crossover occurs before the last available bar, while a “future” crossover happens after it. This is because the Ichimoku indicator projects data forward by 26 bars.

To better understand this, you can look at any chart with the Ichimoku indicator applied, focusing on the Kumo (the shaded area between the Span A and Span B lines).

For examples of these scans, check the “Advanced Scanner > Factory Scans > Technical Indicators > Ichimoku Kinko Hyo” section in the software.
